As a patient of Southern California Injury Treatment Center your first initial visit will consist of a comprehensive evaluation. Our office will request past medical records to ensure that we have all the necessary records to evaluate our patients properly. Once the underlying cause of your pain is determined, our physicians will lay out a treatment plan that can provide long-term results to optimize success in resolving your pain.
Orthopedic surgeons focus on the treatments of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. These surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, and tumors.
Common Conditions that are treated include:
– Dislocations
– Fractures
– Tendon damage
– Spine disorders or injuries
– Neck injuries
– Arthritis
– Bone tumors
An outside force may cause mild or traumatic injury to the brain. It’s similar to a concussion and can be caused by a fall, auto accident, object, or sports injury.
People who have injured their spinal cord often have accompanying brain injury, especially for higher cervical (neck) injuries, which are closer to the brain.
Could you possibly have a brain injury? Did you experience external physical force to the head?
Signs and Symptoms
– Verbal and physical aggression
– Agitation
– Learning Difficulties
– Poor self-awareness
– Altered Sexual functioning
– Impulsivity
– Headaches
– Blurred Vision
– Dizziness/Vertigo
What to expect:
We will coordinate your care with specialists within our network, including vestibular therapists, optometrists, speech pathologists, neurologists and other subspecialties part of our injury treatment center.
A nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test is used to determine nerve damage and dysfunction. Also known as a nerve conduction study, the procedure measures how quickly electrical signals move through your peripheral nerves.
Your peripheral nerves are located outside of your brain and along your spinal cord. These nerves help you control your muscles and experience the senses. Healthy nerves send electrical signals more quickly and with greater strength than damaged nerves.
The NCV test helps your doctor differentiate between an injury to the nerve fiber and an injury to the myelin sheath, the protective covering surrounding the nerve. It can also help your doctor tell the difference between a nerve disorder and a condition where a nerve injury has affected the muscles.
Making these distinctions is important for proper diagnosis and determining your course of treatment.
An NCV test can be used to diagnose a number of muscular and neuromuscular disorders, including:
– Carpal Tunnel
– Herniated Disk Disease
– Peripheral Nerve Injury
– Sciatic Nerve Problems
– Chronic Inflammatory Polyneuropathy and Neuropathy
– Guillian-Barre Syndrome
– Charcot-Marie Tooth(CMT) disease
Physiatrists relieve pain and restore function lost due to illness or injury, short-term conditions like a sports, car accident, or work-related injury, to more serious or chronic disorders like arthritis, spinal injuries, or orthopedic trauma. Physiatrists also treat people who require long-term rehabilitation due to:
– Musculoskeletal disorders
– Back pain and neck pain
– Joint replacement
– Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions
– Pain problems following trauma and surgeries
– Burns
– Spinal cord injuries, paraplegia, quadriplegia
– Brain injuries
– Multiple sclerosis
– TMJ disorders such as Bell’s palsy
Neurology is our newest subspecialty at Southern California Injury Treatment Center. Our neurologist focuses on a custom neurological care plan with an emphasis on treating the patient according to the medical standard of care. Our treatment services include.
– Neuropathy
– Headaches
– Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
– Depression
– And more
A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a type of neurological injury caused by a sudden shaking or jostling of the brain inside the skull. Whether mild or severe, a head injury should always be examined by a trained medical professional.
– Some of the main symptoms can include:
o Headaches
o Slurred speech
o Nausea
o Dizziness
o Difficulty sleeping
o And more
– First our patients will receive a full diagnostic radiology study (MRI) with DTI. Once the Neurologist receives the results, they will provide a treatment plan and any medications to manage your symptoms.
Electromyography and nerve conduction velocity (EMG-NCV) studies refer to diagnostic tests that assess muscle activity and nerve signals. They’re two separate studies but often conducted at the same time. The purpose of each study includes:
Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic procedure to assess the health of muscles and the nerve cells that control them (motor neurons). EMG results can reveal nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission.
A nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test is used to assess nerve damage and dysfunction. Your peripheral nerves start where the nerve root takes off from the spinal cord. These nerves help you control your muscles and experience the senses
Traumatic Dental Injuries is injury to the mouth, including teeth, lips, gums, tongue, and jawbones. The most common is a broken or lost tooth, and commonly occurs with sports injuries and motor vehicle accidents.
What to Expect:
Initial evaluation will include the following:
– Full physical examination of the head, neck, and face
– Assessment of possible injuries to facial fractures or head and neck trauma
Imaging modalities that may be considered include the following:
– MRI of the head, neck, and maxillofacial bones
– Periapical radiography
– Panoramic radiography of the teeth
The treatment depends on the type, location and severity of each injury. Any dental injury involving the dental pulp of a tooth requires examination by one of our dentists.
